CID inspector arrested while dumping body in the sea |

A CID Inspector identified as Chief Inspector Chandana de Silva and another person were arrested yesterday afternoon by Mundalama Police while attempting to dump a dead body in the sea at Paliwasalpaduwa in Mundalama.
The residents in the area, seeing the duo attempting to dump the body had alerted the police. The residents had noticed the two men trying to dump the body brought to the beach by a double cab and had alerted the police by calling 119.
According to identification documents the two men had shown to the police one of them is Chief Inspector Chandana de Silva from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) while the other suspect is said to be an owner of a restaurant at Wellawatta.
The victim, Thangarasa Selvarasu, is an Indian national aged around 24-30 years of age and had been an employee at the restaurant. According to police he has died of choking. A pistol and a cord were recovered from the double cab used in the crime.
