altThe demonstration carried out by students of Rajagiriya Institute of Indigenous Medicine opposite the Ministry at Nawinna demanding the take over of the out door patients section of Rajagiriya Institute of Indigenous Medicine that had been declared opened by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake last year but has not been used, has been attacked by police and dispersed.

The demonstration was organized by Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF). The demonstrators walked from the University of Jayawardenepura to the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine at Nawinna to engage in the demonstration.

The Minister had refused to give a discussion to students. Instead, police was deployed to tear gas the students and disperse the demonstration. Eight students including the convener of IUSF have been arrested say reports.
