Ensure General’s Parliamentary privileges – Court orders Commissioner of Prisons |

The Colombo High Court today ordered the Commissioner of Prisons to ensure the right of former Commander of the Army Parliamentarian Gen. Sarath Fonseka to his Parliamentary privileges. The order was made by the three judge bench of High Court Judges Deepali Wijesundara, W.M.P.B. Warawewa and Sulfikar Razeen when the case regarding an alleged white flag incident.
When the case was heard today the Attorney General presented to Court three CDs which include the alleged statement of Gen. Fonseka. Gen. Fonseka’s counsels were granted 45 days to inspect the CDs.
Several interlocutory orders too were issued during the proceedings. The High Court ordered the Commissioner of Prisons to make available all the facilities for Gen. Fonseka to participate in all Parliamentary sessions, all consultative and other committee meetings in Parliament, party leaders’ meetings and Parliamentary group meetings.
Also, the three bench judges decided to have daily hearings into the case from 27th September.
