We sell vehicle permits to settle our debts – Welgama

A valuable vehicle permit is entitled for anyone elected to parliament and every Parliamentarian elected to parliament sells this permit to pay the loans obtained to spend for their election campaigns says the Minister of Transport Kumara Welgama.

He said this addressing participants in a ceremony held at Dodangoda Pradeshiya Sabha recently.

Speaking further Minister Welgama has said, “Anyone who wants to enter parliament, until this election system exists, should spend at least Rs.50 million. Going to the Parliament is only a dream if any person cannot spend that much for the campaign. Don’t think we Parliamentarians are 100% honest. We also commit crimes.

When someone gets elected to parliament for five years a vehicle permit is entitled. This is very valuable in cash. No one uses this permit except a very few. All sell the permit. We too have done so. Otherwise, how could we pay debt that we fall into during the election campaign?”
