Three persons including Shan Thilanka Galappaththi, the son of the Chairman of Kegalle UC G.K. Samarasinghe, have been admitted to hospital with serious injuries received in a brawl that had occurred early morning today(13th).
Shan and a group had participated in a religious ceremony at a residence of Ranjith , a businessman. They had been there past midnight consuming liquor. While having liquor they had discussed to attack an old rival living several kilometers away in Thalavila village at Hettipola.
The group had gone to the village at dawn today in a van and a car and attacked the business premises of the rival. The villagers had gathered and taken some of the group prisoner while a few had run away. The van and the car the group travelled to the village have been completely destroyed.
The two other persons hospitalized together with the son of the UC Chairman are Neel Gunasekera and Asanka Gunasekera. No one had attempted to take them to the hospital until the police, on a call to 119, had arrived at the scene and taken the injured to hospital.
Shan Thilanka Galappathti, the Chairman’s son, had been involved in several similar clashes earlier. An incident where he had assaulted a sub-inspector of police and getting involved in a brawl at a musical show held at Kegalle esplanade were settled due to his father being the Chairman of the UC.
