Another censorship for ‘Divi Neguma’

The petition filed by Jaffna District TNA Parliamentarian Mawei Senadhiraja seeking an injunction against the Governor of Northern Province to prevent him from sanctioning the ‘Divi Naguma’ draft bill is scheduled to  be heard by the Appeal Court today (4th).

The petitioner states the Supreme Court had decided that all provincial councils should approve the draft bill for it to become the law of the country, the government is attempting to get the approval of the governor for North Province as a provincial council has not been elected to the province and it would violate the fundamental rights of the people in the North.

The governor for Northern Province has been named as a respondent.

The petition also states that ‘Divi Neguma’ draft should be approved by a provincial council elected by the people in the area but the governor is a government official who has not been elected and his approval for the draft is immaterial.
