Another crisis developing in North _ Central PC

It is reported that a member from Polonnaruwa District, who has been elected to North – Central Provincial Council from the UPFA, has decided to resign as he has not been given a ministerial portfolio. The Chairman of Dimbulagala Pradeshiya Sabha who was fifth in the preferential votes list of Polonnaruwa District has said he would resign as he did not get a ministerial portfolio and membership in the PC was useless for him.

Speaking at the Dimbulagala Pradeshiya Sabha he had said he was asked to contest the PC election by the District Leader of the SLFP Minister Maithripala Sirisena. He said, “The people in Dimbulagala and Welikanda asked me to get elected to the PC and strengthen the services to the people. However, I did not get a ministerial portfolio as I expected. Hence, I would not be able to carry out the services the people expect from me. I have decided to remain as the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha. I have written regarding my decision to the Secretary General of the party.”

After the councilors and ministers of the PC were sworn in Mr. Peshala Jayaratne, who received a ministerial portfolio, had said he did not get an office or a secretary and he would not be able to do much with the ministerial portfolio he received.

Interestingly, both these members are very close associates of Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
