FUTA has decided not to agree to the voluntary arbitration process proposed by the Commissioner of Labour to solve the continuous strike launched by university teachers.
Speaking to the media the President of FUTA Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri said the executive committee of FUTA that met took the decision.
Speaking further Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri said, “We were given a letter with the signature of the Commissioner of Labour. It asked us to appoint a representative for the arbitration process. The Executive Committee of FUTA met and decided not to join this process and if the Commissioner of Labour moves for any compulsory arbitration process due to our refusal to reject that too. Also, we decided to vehemently reject any attempt to force us to work. Hence, we would never agree to an arbitration process. The university teachers are prepared to meet any situation that would arise.”
