Two candidates of the TNA have resigned due to threats say reports. The nomination papers had to be amended as two candidates nominated from TNA for Batticaloa District at the forthcoming provincial council election for the Eastern Provincial Council resigned before the nomination papers were handed over said former Parliamentarian M.K. Sivajilingam.
He charged that political parties affiliated to the ruling UPFA intimidate candidates of other political parties. An unknown group that had come to the residence of TNA Batticaloa candidate K. Durai Rajasingham had locked up the house with padlocks and they had to break open the door with the assistance of police said Mr. Sivajilingam.
Sources also say violence and threats from armed gangs of Vinayagamoorthy Muralidharan alias Karuna Amman, a powerful minister of the ruling UPFA government, would increase during the forthcoming election.
