Chairman to be guillotined for NSB racket?

It is revealed that the responsibility of using funds of the NSB in the Colombo share market racket has fallen on its Chairman Pradeep Kariyawasam.

On the 27th of this month more than Rs.390 million of public money in savings funds in the NSB was used to buy shares of ‘The Finance Company worth Rs.30.30 at Rs.49.74. Later, share came down to Rs.32.00 and as a result two members of the Director Board of the NSB handed over letters of resignation.

The Director Board of the NSB has not approved the transaction. Also, the top person behind the transaction too has not been revealed yet. As a result the President, as the Minister of Finance, is confronted with a serious crisis. Certain media had reported that the President had ordered to stop relevant payments. However, reliable sources say the officials have refused to go by this order. Meanwhile, certain media has reported that already payments have been made.

However, the Chairman has been cornered for the fraudulent transaction. The Chairman Pradeep Kariyawasam is the husband of Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake.

The total value must be recovered from the rogue. If the wife has any shame, she shall resign at once from the CJ post. But I doubt very much if either the husband or the wife would be conscience stricken, because they are shameless.

A former cricketer and a mere car salesman without any academic or professional qualifications landed at chairman seat obviously after wife was earmarked as next chief justice. This is not the first time he was involved in suspicious deals. But no one is going to take action against him and antagonize the chief justice. So wait and see
