Child Protection Authority probes child soldier

An extensive inquiry will be held regarding the child soldier apprehended by security forces while being deployed to launch an attack on intelligence officers of security forces said Child Protection Authority.

 

A spokesperson speaking to ‘Lankatruth’ said manipulating an under aged child for military purposes was violation of children’s rights. She further said tiger organization has violated the international convention on children’s rights by this act.

 

It has been revealed that the age of the arrested child soldier is 15. He has revealed that he had been sent to Batticaloa to assassinate several officers of intelligence services and had handed over to the police the firearm he had been given by the tiger organization.

 

He had also revealed that he had taken part in several assassinations including the murder of two grama sevakas.

 

The spokesperson also told ‘Lankatruth’ that using a child for murder not only violates children’s rights but also was against moral values. She emphasized that international community should pay attention to the incident and take measures to halt violations of children’s rights by the LTTE.
