Magistrate complains to Judicial Services Commission against UNP Parliamentarian

It is reported that Colombo Magistrate Ms. Kusala Sarojani Weerawardene has complained to the Judicial Services Commission that a senior UNP Parliamentarian for Galle District had tried to pressurize her to favour in a bribery case against Negombo Mayor Henry Newton Fernando.

 

Mr. Henry Newton Fernando (UNP), Mayor of Negombo was taken into custody in the act of taking a bribe of Rs.25,000/- by officials of Bribery and Fraud Commission.

 

The relevant Parliamentarian had tried to discuss with Colombo Magistrate Ms. Kusala Sarojini Weerawardene regarding the release of Negombo Mayor. The UNP Parliamentarians is a very close associate of UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and was a powerful minister in Mr. Wickremasinghe’s government during 2001 and 2004.
