Names of five as members of constitutional Council have been
forwarded to President Mahinda Rajapakse for approval.
The members have been named with the agreement between Prime
Minister Mr. Ratnasiri Wickremanayke and Leader of the
Opposition Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe.
The persons named are Mr. Nihal Seneviratne, former
Secretary General of the Parliament, President’s Counsel Mr.
Ranjith Abeysuriya, Retired Judge Vigneshwaran and Prof.
Sheriff Deen.
Constitutional Council has ten members. The Prime Minister,
the Leader of the Opposition and the Speaker are ex-officio
members of the Council. A representative from the President
and one representing the minority parties in the Parliament
too are members of the Council.
The Council was inactive due to not naming representatives
for the Council. |
