“Their “Mental Operational Unit” is more severe than all Tiger attacks!"– Wimal Weerwansa

[1st February 2006 - 13:30 S..L.T]

Presenting a special statement in Parliament today (01) JVP Parliamentarian Mr Wimal Weerawansa stated that the tiger terrorism is activated not only in North and East. Its ‘psychological operational unit’ is established in Colombo, he said. He emphasized that we should realize the most severe contingent is operated from Colombo through this ‘mental operation’ which is worse than the ‘Chales Anthony contingent’ and ‘sea tiger contingent’.

He made this statement referring to the headline appeared in the ‘Sunday Leader’ on 15th January 2006 which read as ‘Colombo a target of terror attack warns Intelligence’. In this news item it had stated that within 72 hours from ‘Thai Pongal’ day prominent centres in Colombo Fort - Colombo Port, World Trade Centre, Central Bank and a leading Hotel’ will be the targets of the LTTE. It further stated that the Government has warned the Intelligence Units on this and already certain business establishments have thought of leaving the World Trade Centre.

Mr Weerawansa asked the Speaker to observe the purpose of this news item. He stated that it is obvious that the Wanni tigers are engaged in threatening of a war and influence the Government to kneel before them so that they could achieve their goals. He added that following this news which belongs to the ‘underworld media mafia’ alarmed certain foreign institutions and business firms and some had abandoned their business places as expected by this underworld media which is manipulated by the UNP.

In his statement the JVP Parliamentary Group leader further pointed out that the editor of this English news paper has direct links with the Wanni tigers. He acts on their directions as proved by another news item published in ‘Nidharshanam’ web site which is associated by Pottu Amman of the Tiger Intelligence Unit. This web site had quoted this news item as stated by the editor of ‘Sunday Leader’ to its correspondent in Colombo. It should be noted that this news paper fabricated that ‘the President had scolded him over the telephone recently’. Moreover it was this ‘God Father’ who published news to tarnish the character of Mr Lakshman Kadirgamer in his paper immediately prior to his assassination. He adopts first to character assassination to be followed by physical assassination of the targeted persons.

Mr Weerawansa asked the Parliament that ‘shouldn’t we be vigilant on these ‘Major Generals’, ‘Captains’ of the ‘mental operational unit’ in Colombo who act as journalists or civil social activists. I need not point out that these forces are the real enemies of the Sri Lankan nation. It is not known whether not only the English news paper of the ‘underworld media’ but its Sinhala sister paper is maintained by the Tiger funds or any other illegal source.

He added that ‘I am sure that this paper will target its terrorist underworld media mafia against me when I make this statement for the benefit of the whole nation.’ They will parade to name me as a ‘brutal murderer’ who shoots at ‘innocent media butterflies’ with ‘harsh words’. We are strong enough to face any challenge. I think it is my duty to divulge these evil media usage before the country since the Sri Lankan nation cannot march forward without revealing these serious challenges. We have to expose these elements of true enemies of the nation no matter from where they operate or behind any bush. The politics separated from exposing this duty will only be a betrayal and an infidelity, he said.

He warned that the present government should be cautious of this ‘mental operation’ linked with the terrorism of this underworld media which is tarnishing the character images. ‘The Government should make a special investigation based on this statement presented by me in Parliament today. It is the duty of the Government to explore the means of funds of this media which has linked with terrorism. It is the responsibility of the Government not to leave the destiny of country to be conducted to the whims and fancies of such a group and we urge the Government to take necessary action immediately to overcome this. We request the public to reject such media which favour terrorism’ said Mr Weerawansa concluding his statement.
