A
petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by Commissioner
of Elections Mr. Dayananda Dishanayake and Asst.
Commissioner of Elections Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya requesting
that interim injunction issued by Appeal Court suspending
elections for Colombo Municipality scheduled to be held on
the 30th March be annulled. Several including
secretary general of the UNP have been made respondents.
The
petitioners have stated that the interim injunction issued
by judiciary suspending elections was against election law
and had added that a returning officer is not obliged to
give reasons for rejecting any nomination paper.
