President Mahinda Rajapaksha addressing the PA candidates
contesting the forthcoming local government elections from
all corners of the country at Sugatadasa Stadium yesterday(01st)
said that the road has been cleared for the candidates to
become chairmen, PC members or even the Prime Minister or
the President with their skill and commitment. He said all
obstacles that stood on their way up to the highest posts
have been removed. The President therefore requested them to
serve the people honestly.
He
stressed that mud slinging and slandering against the fellow
candidates must be completely stopped. He added that all
candidates should place their manifestoes before the people
immediately.
The
President also said that their allies, the JVP and Jathika
Hela Urumaya should not be antagonized even though they are
contesting on their own. He said “We should be friendly and
harmonious with them”.
The
General Secretary of the SLFP and minister Maithreepala
Sirisena speaking on this occasion said that all local
government bodies except those in the North and East are in
the hands of the UNP. Therefore their corrupt practices
should be divulged and bared to the people. When making a
clean city, development activities as well as garbage should
receive top priority.
The
minister also said that all candidates in their campaign
should take care that “Mahinda Chintanaya should not be
tarnished. |
