Ms.
Chandrika Bandaranayke Kumaratunga, former President and
president of the SLFP, has opposed the meeting held
yesterday(01st). This meeting had been organized for President Mahinda Rajapakse to meet all the candidates of the UPFA
contesting the local government elections.
Ms. Kumaratunga
had expressed her opposition to the meeting in a letter
written to Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, Secretary General of
the SLFP.
In her
letter Ms. Kumaratunga had stated she should be informed of
any meeting or discussion of the party as the leader of the
party and Messrs. Mahinda Rajapakse and Maithripala Sirisena
have acted in a way violating the party constitution. She
had not been informed about three meetings of the committee
for nominations of the SLFP and many in the party act in a
way humiliating her. She had said that she did not want to
divulge them as it would harm the party.
Meanwhile, our political sources say Ms. Kumaratunga had
said that Messrs. Mahinda Rajapaksse and Maithripala
Sirisena were conspiring to oust her from the leadership of
the party but she would never give it up. |
