Thugs attack Secretary to JSC

A group of unknown people have attacked the Secretary to the Judiciary Service Commission Manjula Tillekeratne today (7th) morning near Hotel road at Mt. Lavinia. Mr. Tillekeratne has been admitted to Colombo National Hospital with several cut injuries.

The media announcement issued by Mr. Tillekeratne as the Secretary to the JSC on 8th September created a commotion in government circles.

The announcement stated that people of various positions pressurize and threaten affairs of the Judicial Service Commission in a manner that it was unable to carry out its functions independently and impartially. This is the first time such an announcement was issued by the JSC.

Subsequently, the President called heads of media institutions to Temple Trees and stated he would not influence the judiciary nor would he allow anyone else to do so.  The President had further stated he had convened judges of the Supreme Court and  officials of the JSC to discuss their welfare affairs.
