Those involved in NSB fraud given the reins again

The individuals who carried out the racket to buy shares from the bankrupt ‘the Finance’ company using funds from National Savings Bank (NSB) have been appointed again to its Board of Directors. After the fraud the Chairman and the Board of Directors resigned. As a result of this transaction the NSB lost Rs.152,863,757.28. The ‘Voice against Fraud’ organization has made a complaint regarding this to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The President has re appointed Mr. Sumanadasa Abeyguanwardene who was a member of the Director Board of NSB when the fraud took place. Mr. Sumandasa Abeygunawardene functions as President’s personal astrologer. As a result of NSB funds being used in share market rackets, the affairs of the bank were hindered and the bank lost its credibility say internal sources of the bank.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has questioned the former Chairman of NSB Pradeep Kariyawasam at length. Mr. Kariaywasam is the husband of Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake.
