“We, under the JVP, would build a state that would genuinely implement the rule of law. We affirm that the only political movement in the country that could address all Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and all other communities is the JVP.
What we ask the people in this country now is to give us power. Give the power in the hand of the people to the JVP. We call upon the people in the country to rally with the JVP to build a government that loves the country, that represents the wishes of the people and a government that people could say it is theirs,” says the Leader of the JVP Anura Dissanayaka.
He said this at the massive rally held after the ‘Street Filling Protest March organized by the JVP and started from Kalutara on the 7th and marched to Nugegoda yesterday. The Leaders of the JVP and a massive crowd attended the rally.
The JVP Leader said, “The ‘Street Filling’ Protest March that began from Kalutara on the 7th after marching along 41 k.m. reached Nugegoda today (8th) to give a new signal to the people in this country. It is the message that the existing government would be sent home and a new government would be formed. The JVP didn’t take to the streets suddenly. The JVP always stood with the people in their issues and took to the streets demanding solutions for such issues and to protest against the government’s moves against the people and the country. We took to the streets on behalf of the farmer community, the working masses, the youths as well as on behalf of all the communities. Ours is not a political party that does a ‘voice cut politics’ like that of Rajapaksas. Ours is a political party that takes to the streets for genuine issues of the people.
We challenge Ranil and Mahinda to tell the country what they secretly discussed at Temple Trees when Ranil arrived their early morning on 9th January 2015. Neither of them revealed this to the people for the last 4 ½ years. What Mahinda had said is he would relinquish power and not to do anything against his family. After 26th October last year when Ranil was trapped at Temple Trees Gotabhaya Rajapaksa visited him. They haven’t told anything about this meeting. What Gota had said was that Ranil would be protected. This is how they show their gratitude. This government has gone against its mandate and protected murderers, thieves and fraudsters.
It was the JVP that revealed frauds and corruption committed in the country. Ravi Karunanayaka lost the post of Finance minister due to the investigations into the Central Bank scam was carried out by Comrade Sunil Handunneththi. The JVP took measures to have a day’s debate against crediting funds due to the country to an illegal Avante Guard company. Tilak Marapana lost his ministerial post when the JVP brought a no-confidence motion as he tried to defend Gotabhaya Rajapaksa during the debate. When orders had been issued to arrest former Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarathne hid in Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka’s residence. It was the JVP that exposed this to the country. When Wimal Weerawana tried to go abroad using a fake passport and was arrested Ranil contacted the Attorney General and got him released.
We, as the JVP, do not have any deals with the government. We took to the streets against the conspiracy to remove the government on 26th October. This action was justified by a panel of 7 Supreme Court Judges.
We send Ranil – Maithri government not to bring back a Rajapaksa administration. It is to build a people’s government that would build this country. Power is with the people. It is now with the Temple Trees or the Presiden’s Palace. The fountain of power is the people. Mahinda got himself into a muddle trying to grab power without the consent of the people. He became the ’52 day prime minister’. The likes of Wimal and Gammanpila became ‘45 minute ministers’. Ranil and Maithri can give their successors their private properties. They cannot give a country in that manner.
We do not ask power from Ranil or Maithri. We ask for power from the people. We are capable of doing that. Despite losing a number of leaders of the 71’ generation, we would collect those who have abandoned old left parties, youths with inspirations, creative artists, talented professionals and virtuous people at the BMICH on 14th July to form a new organization. It would be the center that would ask power from the people.
The part that is assigned to us is political management. It is the political management that has to prepare the targets of the various sectors of the economy that have to be implanted within a 5 year period. It is the experts of those sectors who have to carry out the work according to the plan created. The JVP with discipline, that can make any sacrifice, firm leadership and a correct political theory could mediate in this political management. The largest organization of professionals has united with the JVP. They are with the JVP not with the greed of grabbing positions of the administration that will be formed. But as professionals who are dedicated to build the country.
What exists today is not an issue about national security but an issue regarding public security. It is so because of the distrust and suspicion that has developed between communities. We experienced the Sinhalese and Muslim extremism recently. Only a political movement that could defeat extremism could confront such situations. The agenda of the JVP doesn’t have any room for communalism or religious extremism.
Only the JVP can affirm the supremacy of the rule of law. The likes of Gotabhaya, who abscond the judiciary cannot affirm the supremacy of the rule of law. We have not stolen a single cent of our people. The JVP is the only political movement that doesn’t have any fraudsters or the corrupt. We, under the JVP, would build a state that would genuinely implement the rule of law. We affirm that the only political movement in the country that could address all Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and all other communities is the JVP.
What we ask the people in this country now is to give us power. Give the power in the hand of the people to the JVP. We call upon the people in the country to rally with the JVP to build a government that loves the country, that represents the wishes of the people and a government that people could say it is theirs.”
The rotating politics should be defeated – Tilvin Silva, General Secretary of the JVP
The General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva addressing the rally said, “Every corner of Nugegoda town has been filled by the people now to prove that the struggle we have launched can be victorious. We have marched from Kalutara and are here now to show what a disciplined movement ours is.
Ranil, Maithri and Mahinda do not belong to different groups. They are in the same group. They should be defeated as one bundle. We are against toppling governments with conspiracies. This is why we opposed the palace conspiracy on 26th October to change the government. This government should be sent home and a new government should be formed. However, we shouldn’t bring back the old thieves. The vacuum should be filled by forming a people’s government.
During the past, the same people were appointed as ministers in every government. The people must defeat the rotating political system. We have begun that struggle. This is not only a struggle to defeat the government but a struggle to create a new people’s administration. We launched this struggle with a plan. Intellectuals who genuinely love this country are with us now. They compiled a set of policies and a programme to build this country. They have chosen the JVP as the trustful leadership that could implement the programme. Several organizations that believe that democracy in the country should be protected started a dialogue with us. This is not a front to face an election. It is a front that would build people’s power. Many organizations that want to change this society, that want to protect democracy, environment culture, for national unity to defeat communalism and religious extremism and that have dedicated themselves for the downtrodden people have rallied with us. We unconditionally represent these slogans. Such organizations have expressed their desire to do politics headed by the JVP. We would form a people’s movement with these organizations to transform this society. It would be launched at the BMICH on the 14th of this month.
The biggest political front that would be against Ranil and Mahinda at the next election would be built. Now the enemies have got stirred up. They have started a mudslinging campaign against our leader Comrade Anura Dissanayaka. In the past, they insulted Comrade Rohana Wijeweera. Later they insulted Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe. Now they are coming out with vituperations against Comrade Anura Dissanayaka. The JVP cannot be downed by insults and vituperations. China’s revolutionary leader Chairman Mao Zedong has said that “We judge our success, not with the praises from our friends but the angry threats of our enemies.’ We have chosen a difficult path. We all have made massive sacrifices. These mud campaigns would not change our responsibilities and our goals. Even after a people’s administration is established in this country we would continue to work for the country voluntarily.”
