Parliamentarian Wijedasa Rajapaksa had accused him of releasing the terrorists who had vandalized Buddha statues at Mawanella stating two of those terrorists he had released were the ones who exploded bombs at Shangri-la and Cinnamon Grand hotels but the two suspects related to Mawanella incident he released due to unavailability of clear evidence had put their signatures at the CID after the Easter Sunday bombings says the Director of CID SSP Shani Abeysekera.
He said this giving evidence at the sessions of the Parliament Select Committee probing the Easter Sunday bombings.
He said the Parliamentary Select Committee has given him the opportunity to come out with the truth as earlier they had to stay like dumb people when various false accusations are aimed at them.
SSP Shani Abeysekera said all those who had connections with Saharan are either dead or are under arrest and 80% of investigations regarding the Easter Sunday incident have been completed.
He said nothing has been revealed to implicate Dr Shafi Shihabdeen with terrorist or extremist affairs and said if there was any evidence against him regarding involvement in terrorist and extremist activities or regarding fallopian tubes, courts would have been informed.
