Former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda has admitted that the unit in question regarding the abduction and killing of 11 youths operated under his direct supervision. Former Navy Commander appeared before the CID yesterday (11th) morning as instructed by the court.
A senior Police officer charged that former Navy Commander Karannagoda had been asked in writing to appear before the CID twice earlier but he failed to do so.
Karannagoda, who was given permission to enter the CID premises with one of his security officers, was questioned for nearly seven hours. He appeared before the CID to provide a statement as instructed by the court over the abduction and killing of 11 youths.
Earlier several Navy personnel including former Naval Media Spokesperson Commodore DKP Dassanayake and Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi, were arrested by the CID for aiding and abetting the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths in 2008 and 2009.
