The gazette notification suddenly issued by President Maithripala Sirisena to dissolve government has been stayed. The Supreme Court yesterday (13th) issued an interim order staying the proclamation issued by President Sirisena till 7th December.
Thirteen petitions by political parties, civil organizations, individuals including an Election Commissioner had been filed in the Supreme Court against the gazette issued by President Sirisena. The three-Judge bench headed by Chief Justice Nalin Perera, Prasanna Jayawardene and Priyantha Jayawardene declared the decision yesterday evening.
The petitions will be heard on 4th, 5th and 7th of December. Until then all elections matters have been stopped.
