“Any political party has the right to carry out agitations and hold protest campaigns against the government. However, the JVP has nothing to do with moves carried out by the ‘Joint’ opposition,” said the Leader of the JVP Anura Dissanayaka.
Responding to a question asked at a press conference held at the head office of the JVP at Pelawatta today (2nd) Mr Dissanayaka said, “As a party, we carry out our programme against the policies followed by both the UNP and the SLFP and their splinters in a bid to promote an alternative policy.
Getting another gang of thieves to replace the existing gang of thieves would not change the system being carried out at present. All these parties have proved they are unable to develop the country. The country has been trapped in a massive debt trap, the youths have not been given their right to employment. The government is unable to improve the living standards of the general public including that of farmers, fishermen, estate workers etc. The government that cannot bring down the cost of living has proved it cannot take the country forward. Former administration, the present administration as well as Rajapaksa administration that thinks of making a comeback have proved that they are unable to develop the country said the Leader of the JVP.

VAC wants details about Chatura’s wedding ceremony
Voice Against Corruption (VAC) has asked, under the Right for Information Act, for details, especially the charges and the income, regarding the wedding ceremony of Parliamentarian Chathura Senaratna held at Temple Trees recently.
The convener of VAC Wasantha Samarasinghe queries whether there is a policy of renting out a prime minister’s official residence for a wedding or such ceremony for the public.
Mr Samarasinghe also states members of the three defence forces had been deployed for the various functions of the wedding ceremony and points out deploying members of the services for such private ceremonies is a wrong practice and is a misappropriation of public funds.
He has asked details about how much was charged to make available Temple Trees for the wedding ceremony, the price of a plate of food, who paid the bills and whether the prime minister’s official residence could be hired for private ceremonies.
A ‘white paper’ to plunder EPF
A white paper compiled by the government on proposals from the Asian Development Bank and a US company has been presented to plunder funds from the IMF reveals the Leader of the JVP Anura Dissanayaka.

Mr Dissanayaka also revealed that the white paper to be presented proposes 30% to 40% funds from the EPF should be invested in the share market. It has also been proposed that incentives should be made available to invest the balance 60% or 70% in the share market.
More about cattle thieving
The government has planned to import sick cattle from an Australian company paying Rs. 1750 million says the National Organizer of All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation (ACFF)Namal Karunaratna speaking at a press conference held at Dambulla.
He revealed this on information received from the Ministry of Rural Economy Development under the Right to Information Act.
Despite it has been proved through a medical test carried out in London that the cattle imported from Australia were infected with two diseases that are not found in this country, plans are afoot to spend more than Rs.1750 million more to bring down cattle from Australia said Mr Karunaratna.
When excreta from cattle already imported from Australia were tested it was revealed that the cattle were infected with Bovine viral diarrhea and Fasciola hepatica, also known as the common liver fluke, two serious diseases. As such, Sri Lanka Veterinary Association (SLVA) has instructed all its members not to get involved in any matters to do with the imported cattle from Australia said Mr Karunaratna.
At the press conference the National Organizer of ACFF warned that there was a possibility of all mammals including man would be infected with the said diseases if the cattle are brought to this country. He also warned the excreta from the sick animals could seep into the ground water and cause dangerous epidemics.
Mr Karunaratna said even after it has been clinically proved that the cattle are infected with dangerous diseases, spending so much public money to import the cattle from the Australian company is a serious national crime.
