It has been revealed in the Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE) that the present General Manager of People’s Bank and the former General Manager have obtained Rs.75 million as arrears in annual salary increments.
COPE Chairman Sunil Handunneththi revealed in Parliament yesterday (23rd) that COPE has recommended not to give any service extension to the General Manager of People’s Bank who draws a monthly salary of Rs.2.1 million but to terminate his services in the bank.
Mr Handunneththi said the present General Manager of People’s Bank Wasantha Kumara is 60 years old but has asked for one year’s extension which violates Bank’s policies.
He said the COPE is of the view that this service extension must not be given and the common recruitment procedure adhered by all banks must be followed in appointing a suitable person as the General Manager.
Mr Handunneththi said the Ministry of Finance and the Public Enterprises Ministry were informed of COPE’s recommendation to reject the request for extension which has been accepted by the relevant ministries.
