The slogan for which Ven. Kudapola Thero sacrificed his life remains a strong slogan for the Maha Sangha in Sri Lanka says Ven. Wakamulle Uditha Thera of National Bhikkhu Front (NBF).
Speaking at a press conference held yesterday (23rd) Ven. Uditha Thero said All issues that are before the country have been caused by the subjugation we have brought on ourselves and the green or blue rulers that have come to power in this country have not attempted to defeat this subjugation.
Speaking further Ven. Uditha Thero said, “It is due to this subjugation that the country is cornered with agreements such as ETCA, with Singapore and conditions from organizations such as IMF and the government is made to sell resources of the country. Who brought about this situation? It was done by the rulers who came to power in the country. First of all the country should be liberated from these rulers. We would have to rally without considering various differences. Whether we are the clergy or the laymen, whether we are Sinhalese, Tamil or Muslim we will have to carry out a united fight. However, the rulers would take all the measures to prevent this unity as they know that their journey is over if we unite without any differences.
That’s why they bring in the 19th amendment to see whether they could continue to be in power.
If the ‘whole’ could be built on the subsidiaries that are connected with the ‘whole’ could be developed. Without such an attempt we cannot talk about a purely religious order, a pure politics or a pure economy.
This is why we require the example of Ven. Kudapola Thero. He sacrificed his life to save the country from subjugation. We too have a struggle to save the country from the subjugation that has been brought about by the present rulers who boast about a so-called independence said to have been achieved in 1948.
Ven. Uditha said the educated and the intellectuals in the country should pay their attention to this matter and the time has come for them to take the country on a correct path.
