
It was revealed at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday (28th) that the Commission to Investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption has not recAllegationsate facilities to fulfill the expected objectives and as a result, the Commission is confronted with several obstacles.
The Director General of the Commission Attorney at Law Sarath Jayamanna speaking at the press conference said the Commission has not no power to file cases based on evidence found at the Presidential Investigation Commissions what the Commission to Investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption could do is to recall the witnesses who had given evidence at the Presidential Commission and take down the evidence for a second time.
He asked how could bribery and fraud eradicated if the salaries of officials in the Bribery Commission are not increased. He said a part of the old building has collapsed and a part of the officials of the Commission has to be accompanied at a separate building. He added a new building is required if new officials are to be recruited.
Mr Jayamanna said permission has been given for a new building but the Urban Development Authority has opposed the building project.
