Johann Peries became the second Sri Lankan to successfully reach the peak of the Mount Everest. He is reported to have reached the 6,189 meters peak at 5.55 a.m. in Nepal time yesterday (22nd).
Jayanthi Kuru Utumpala was the first Sri Lankan to reach the summit of Mt. Everest.
This was Johann Peries’ second attempt as he failed at his first attempt in 2016 due to a malfunction in his oxygen tank
Johann had been in the Himalayas since April to prepare for his goal and was a member of a larger team led by International Mountain Guides, For the past few weeks, Johann had performed a series of climbing rotations which prepared the climbers for higher altitudes and the Himalayan terrain.
