Executive presidency should be abolished – Mahinda Rajapaksa

April 20, 2018 by NHL Werasinghe Leave a Comment

He too agrees that the executive presidency should be abolished said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking to journalists in Kandy today (20th). He said there could be various views but his view is against the executive presidency and added that his view was not influenced by his inability to contest again for the presidential election.
Presently, the view of the group represented by Messrs Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa in the joint opposition is that executive presidency should be abolished. However, a minority in the JO represented by the likes of Wimal Weerawansa says that executive presidency should not be abolished. Further, Wimal Weerawansa faction has labelled the group in the joint opposition who are against executive presidency as RAW spies.
