Video: Many criminals & rapists nominated – PAFFREL

Many criminals and rapists have been nominated as candidates for the local government election says the Executive Director of People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL)Rohana Hettiarachchi.
Speaking at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday (11th) Mr Hettiarachchi said 243 incidents have been reported after the election was announced and added there were 287 instances of violating election law.
Many incidents of violating election law reported are instances of entertaining for the purpose of influencing politically and illegal propaganda said the Executive Director of PAFFREL.
He said a special feature at the election is attempting to bribe the voter psychologically said Mr Hettiarachchi adding such moves are an insult to the voter.
He said candidates who attempt to take measures to override the Elections Commission and the law of the country would not serve the people they claim to represent.
He also said anyone elected as a people’s representative would not be able to have official transactions with the government or government institutions and such persons cannot be nominated for the election.
PAFFREL calls upon the voters to have a good knowledge about the person they elect for their council.
