The 19th Teachers’ Convention of the Lanka Teacher services Union (LTSU) was held under theme “One voice – One centre” at Colombo Public Library yesterday (13th).
The General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva, the President of National Trade Union Center (NTUC) K.D. Lal Kantha and the President of LTSU Mahinda Jayasinghe chaired the Convention.
It was discussed in the Convention that Ranil – Maithri administration despite promising 6% of GDP for education and stabilizing free education, is engaged in a move to destroy not only free education but the free health services as well.
It was also broadly discussed the challenges the move by the ‘yahapalana’ government would bring on the rights of more than 4.5 million students as well as the services of teachers and principals in the country. Resolutions were passed to take action to defend the rights of the students, teachers and Principals of schools as well as be a part of the mass struggles to make the society a righteous one.
