The protest campaign organized by the People’s Front against Uma-Oya Multi Destructive Project demanding the government to stop the Uma – Oya destructive project and compensate all those who were affected due to the project was held in Badulla town today.
Thousands of farmers, workers, business people, government employees who have been affected due to the project participated in the campaign. The vehicle parade that began from Hali Ela ended at Badulla Hospital junction from where the protest march commenced.
Thousands of people participated in the protest campaign despite an enjoining order obtained by the police against the campaign.
The convener of People’s Front against Uma-Oya Multi Destructive Project JVP Provincial Councilor Samantha Viddyarathna addressing the rally said the President lied to the people when he said he would give an interview and warned that the people who have been affected due to the destructive project would take stern action if authorities fail to find solutions for the burning issues.
He invited resident of Badulla District who live abroad and elsewhere in Sri lanka, specially intellectuals and professionals to join with them in finding solutions for the issues in the area. He also requested the people in the county to consider teh Uma Oya destruction as a national issue.
