Both Lalith Weeratunga, former Secretary to the President during Mahinda Rajapaksa regime and Anusha Palpita, former Director General of Telecommunications Regulatory Commission were found guilty by the Colombo High Court today (7th) in the case filed against them for distributing ‘sil’ clothes worth Rs. 600 million during the last presidential election campaign.
The case was the first to be filed by the Attorney General after the FCID investigated on a complaint made by the convener of Voice Against Corruption (VAC) Wasantha Samarasinghe.They were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment for each and were fined Rs. 20 million each. Each of them was also ordered to Rs.50 million for the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

The verdict was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga.
