Trvis Sinniah to be appointed new Navy Commander

The Chief of Defense Staff General Crisanthe De Silva is set to retire on the 21st and the vacancy would be filled by Navy Commander Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. Eastern Naval Commander Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah is tipped to be appointed as the Navy Commander, the vacancy created by the appointment of Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne as the Chief of Defense staff. It is believed that President Maithripala Sirisena would hand over the letter of appointment to Rear Admiral Sinniah today (18th).
Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah has played a decisive role in destroying and apprehending LTTE war ships during the war against separatists say Navy sources. However, during the latter stages of Rajapaksa administration, he was subjected to political revenge say sources.
In seniority, Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah is the third in the list in SL Navy. However, both officers ranked above him have been accused of being involved in an incident in which a group of Tamil youths in Colombo had been made to disappear.
