It is reported that former Minister of Finance and current Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayaka is to resign from his portfolios and Minister Tilak Marapana is to be appointed for the vacancy.
After Ranil – Maithri government came to power Arjun Mahendran was appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank and at the Presidential Commission appointed to investigate bond scam committed during this period it was revealed that Mr Ravi Karunanayaka has had close relations with those who were involved in the fraud.
With this revelation, many parties claimed that Mr Karunanayaka, who was the Minister of Finance at the time of the crime, should resign from his cabinet portfolio.
Tilak Marapana, who is to be appointed to the post Ravi Karunanayaka is to vacate, had to resign from a ministerial post due to the opposition in the country towards him as it was revealed in Parliament that he assisted the accused in the controversial Avant Garde dealings.
However, the President and the Prime Minister recently took him back to the cabinet and now he is to be given the portfolio created by the possible resignation of Ravi Karunanayaka.
