The request made for years by the people of Kiwulawila Mudalik Kanda area to build a bridge at Bambaragala Ketakade that connects their villages and had been neglected by several administrations that ruled the country has now been fulfilled by the JVP.
The proposal to build the bridge, the first of the Rambuka ‘Dhiriya’ Citizens’ Society, could be made a reality with the contribution from Mr. Siripala, a JVP member in the area and a collection made by residents in the area.
The bridge had been an election promise during several elections and due to the inability to continue the deception further, a UNP candidate had left several reinforced culvert pipes stating he would build the bridge. The residents had to bear the expenses for the transport of the pipes and a resident who had participated in unloading the pipes had died when it had fallen on him. However, no one had come forward to build the bridge until now. A local politician has been accused of selling several culvert pipes brought to build the bridge.
In such a situation the National Organizer of the JVP Bimal Rathnayaka and Ratnapura District Organizer of the JVP Gamini Kumarasinghe laid the foundation stones on the 13th to build the bridge undertaken under the ‘Janabala Meheyuma’ programme of the JVP.
However, it is reported that authorities are attempting to obstruct the construction of the bridge.
