Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has filed an appeal in Supreme Court against the verdict given by the Court of Appeal ordering that students receiving degrees from SAITM institute that sells medical degrees should be registered in SLMC. The appeal was filed yesterday (13th).
The Court of Appeal that heard a petition filed by two students from SAITM ordered on the 31st of January that there was no legal restriction for registering the relevant degree holders in SLMC.
The Court of Appeal had also stated that according to the gazette issued by the Minister of Higher Education SAITM institute was legally able to issue degrees.
SLMC in its petition asks Supreme Court to issue an interim order preventing the implementation of the order by the Court of Appeal and to annul it.
