Any human rights violations committed during the war period should be investigated and punished only through an internal judicial process states the JVP.
This was stated by the General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva addressing a meeting held in Vavuniya District yesterday (18th).
Speaking further Mr. Tilvin Silva said, “There is no agreement within the government. The left hand is unaware of what the right hand does. They have brought in an issue that doesn’t exist in our country. It was Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government that imported this issue. As it was neglected the international community, specially the USA were able to use human rights issues to adopt resolutions against Sri Lanka.
The resolution against Sri Lanka was adopted during Mahinda Rajapaksa regime. They could not defeat it. They have been able to pressurize us making use of this resolution. It is in this resolution it is recommended that foreign judges should be deployed when investigating war crimes.
We clearly say any human rights violations that have been committed in the country should be investigated. However, the process of such investigation should be carried out by a court in our country. No foreign bodies should be allowed to get involved in this process. For, foreign countries have no right to intervene in our internal issues. It is wrong to allow foreign forces to intervene in our affairs.”
Furniture bought from JVP Parliamentarians’ decentralized fund was distributed to Warikuttur Farmers’ Society and Warikuttur Village Development Society at Vavuniya.
