Wimal Weerawansa, who is charged of misusing 40 state vehicles belonging to the National Engineering Corporation (NEC) causing Rs. 90 million financial loss to the state during 2011-2014 period and has been remanded, has begun a fast. However, he is to send an application today (23rd) through his counsel pleading to be bailed out said MP of the Mahinda faction of the UPFA Ranjith Soyza.
His applications seeking bail from Fort Magistrates Court and Colombo High Court were rejected earlier.
His application for bail to Fort Magistrates Court sought bail pleading Court to consider the mental state of his daughter.
A fast unto death begun by Wimal Weerawansa on an earlier occasion was abandoned when then President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave him a glass of young coconut water. There was talk that that ‘fast unto death’ was staged and the fast became known as ‘lemon puff’ fast.
