All Ceylon Customs Services Union states it opposes the move to abolish the old Customs Act and bring in a new Act.
The General Secretary of the Union J.A. Gunathilaka states the move is to facilitate racketeers. He said the Act has become a headache for those who avoid paying taxes, racketeers and smugglers. He added fraudsters and racketeers could engage in frauds without any fear if the Act is changed.
Mr. Gunathilaka said a discussion will be held with the Director General of Customs today (25th).
