People have been burdened with the payment of loans obtained to build Hambanthota Harbour, it is an assets of the people in the country and the government has no right to sell it says the Leader of the JVP Parliamentarian Anura Dissanayaka. He was speaking at a press conference held at the head office of the JVP at Pelawatta today (3rd).
Mr. Dissanayaka said a massive struggle would be carried out against the government’s policy of selling peoples resources and state assets and added a leaflet campaign will be launched from tomorrow as the first step of the massive struggle.
He said taxes and fines and slashing relief and services have become the basic financial policy of the government. He said the bills adopted in parliament recently, gazettes that were issued and decisions taken in cabinet are directed towards selling state resources and assets and slashing of relief and services for the people. He pointed out that many taxes that were proposed in the budget would be implemented from the 1st of January and proposals in the budget would be implemented within the next three months. As such people will be burdened with new taxes and increase in prices of commodities he added.
