Parliamentarian Athuraliye Rathana Thero, in a media briefing held yesterday (16th), announced that he had decided to act in Parliament as an independent MP. The media conference was held at Colombo Foundation Institute.
Rathana Thero entered Parliament in 2004 as a Member of JHU and later joined Mahinda Rajapaksa regime. After 10 years of being a Member of the Rajapaksa regime he left it in 2014.
At the last presidential election he supported the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena and at the general election held in 2015 he entered parliament from UNP National list.
Rathana Thero, announcing his decision to be an independent MP in Parliament, said he would not join the opposition and would never intend toppling the government. His intention is to point out wrongs committed by the government and take it along a correct path he added.
