At a media briefing held on the 10th former minister of Mahinda Rajapaksa regime Bandula Gunawardene said Mahinda Rajapaksa regime did not agree to transfer lands in connection with port city project to the Chinese company and challenged to BBC journalist, who asked the relevant question to produce if there was such an agreement.
At the media briefing held yesterday (17th) Colombo correspondent of BBC Azzam Ameen produced the relevant agreement and asked the same question from Mr. Bandula Gunawardene.
Bandula Gunawardene tried to conceal his embarrassment at coming out with false information by saying he meant from what he said was that land that existed then was not transferred from the agreement. He said port city was a reclaimed land.
However, at the media briefing held on the 10th what Mr. Bandula Gunawardene was that there was no agreement to transfer land in the port city project. Reading the agreement presented to him at the media briefing Mr. Gunawardene said it was the first time he saw the agreement and said wht was to be transferred was reclaimed land. However, what Mr. Gunawardene has forgotten is the sea area too belongs to this country.
