Young Journalists Association of Sri Lanka in a press release has condemned the Navy Commander for assaulting a journalist and obstructing the journalist who was covering the incident at Hambantota Harbour. The Navy Commander had been with the Naval force that had been sent to disperse the protest campaign carried out by employees of Hambantota Port. The employees were demanding that they be made permanent employees of Port Authority and were protesting against privatizing the Hambantota Harbour,
The Association has asked Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, the Police and the Director General of Government Information Department to hold an inquiry regarding the conduct of the Navy Commander and take appropriate action against him.
