The Development (Special Provisions) Draft Bill that is known in the society as the ‘Bill to create a Super Minister’ is being presented to provincial councils to get the approval of the councils. It was presented in Southern and Sabaragamuwa provincial councils today (27th) but was defeated in both councils.
The Chief Minister for Southern PC Shan Wijayalal de Silva presented it to the Southern PC after a few councilors spoke regarding the Bill. The Bill was defeated by 19 votes as 14 councilors voted for the Bill while 33 voted against it. The councilors of the UPFA and the JVP voted against the Bill while the 14 UNP councilors voted for the Bill.
When the Bill was presented to Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council today (27th) it was defeated by 7 votes. 20 councilors of the UPFA voted against the Bill while 13 UNP councilors voted for the Bill.
