Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said in Parliament that he regrets the complaint made by Joint Opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardana in Parliament today (3rd) who had stated that the high security zone around Parliament had been changed, it is difficult for people to meet their representatives in Parliament and even MPs coming to Parliamentary complex are obstructed said.
The Speaker said the move taken as a security measure after discussing with security sections and the security zone that was declared has not been changed and the complaint by Mr. Dinesh Gunawardana is baseless.
The Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said if it was necessary a decision could be taken at a party leaders meeting to name the high security zone.
The Chief Whip of the Opposition JVP Leader Anura Dissanayaka said naming the high security zone is not the duty of party leaders but it should be done by security sections. He said MPs should be immediately made aware of the high security zone named as a security measure.
The Speaker agreeing to this suggestion said Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena, one of the most senior MPs in the House, coming up with blatant lies in Parliament and aiming false allegations against him is regrettable.
