Protest week against selling Hambanthota Harbour

A black flag campaign would be carried out in Colombo Harbour from 2nd January protesting against the decision to sell Hambanthota Harbour states All Ceylon Ports General Workers Union.

The General Secretary of All Ceylon Ports General Workers Union Chandrasiri Mahagamage said simultaneous with the protest campaign in Colombo Harbour black flag campaign would be carried out in all harbours in the island, all institutes that come under Sri Lanka Ports authority and vehicles and all employees of the Authority would wear a black band during their duty hours.
He said this at a meeting held at Punchi Borella yesterday (29th) to apprise the media regarding the protect campaign. Mr. Chandrasiri Mahagamage said the government intends signing the agreement to hand over Hambanthota Harbour to a Chinese company on 8th January and his trade union would take all measures to defeat government’s move to hand over people’s asset to a foreign company.
