Despite leave of all postal employees has been cancelled, the token strike launched by postal employees continued.
The Joint Postal Trade Union (JPTU) Convener Chinthaka Bandara said the strike that commenced at midnight on the 19th would continue for 48 hours.
The main objective of the two-day strike is to regularize recruitment and promotions and mete out justice to the 21,000 postal service employees belonging to the various grades and remove anomalies in their salary scales.
If the authorities do not respond favourably regarding their demands they would not hesitate to continue the strike said JPTU convener Chinthaka Bandara.
Meanwhile, Post Master General Rohana Abayaratne had said leave of all postal employees had been cancelled. However, JPTU convener Chinthaka Bandara said cancellation of leave would not affect their trade union action.
