It is reported that five councilors of the Southern Provincial Council including three from the Mahinda faction are continuously meeting powerful members of the SLFP and the UNP to get a ministerial portfolio in the Provincial Council.
The Minister of Agriculture U.G.D. Ariyathilleke of the PC has stated that he would resign from his portfolio as the budget for his ministry was defeated at the voting for the budget proposals.
The aforesaid members are in a frantic effort to win favour of the UNP and SLFP stalwarts in a bid to get the portfolio if it falls vacant by the resignation of the present minister.
Among the members who are attempting to get the portfolio are three members representing Galle District and one each from Matara and Hambantota districts.
However, it is reported that the decision regarding the member who would be appointed to the post would be decided in a discussion among President Maithripala Sirisena, the Minister of Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Mohamed Faiszer Musthapha and Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva.
