Minister of Development Policies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama says an act named Development (Special Provisions) Draft Bill would be presented in Parliament in February next year. This is indeed a ploy to establish a ‘super ministry’ in the guise of removing bottlenecks that exist in the promotion of Foreign Direct Investment.
The minister speaking at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday (21st) said the President had already given his approval for the draft bill.
In the political sector it was discussed that the government was preparing to create a ministry with super powers that exceeds powers of the President. The ministry would get authority to take over any land in the island and could take independent decisions. Already, a massive opposition has developed for the move by the government to create a super ministry that could wield draconian powers.
